Cost & access

Is it really free?

Yes. There is no charge for care provided at The Weekend Clinic. We operate through volunteers and donations. A service you obtain elsewhere—such as outside imaging, specialist care, or a pharmacy prescription—may have its own cost. We will discuss that with you if it applies.

Do I need insurance or a referral?

No. Our focus is people who are uninsured or underinsured, but we will see anyone. If we are open, we are willing to talk to you about your concern. contact us. Tell us if a recommended outside service is unaffordable.

I have insurance but still cannot afford care. Can I come?

Many people have coverage that still leaves them with costs they cannot manage. If we can help you, we absolutely will!

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk-ins are welcome on Sundays from 1–6 PM. You can also schedule online. Wait times and the number of visits we can complete depend on the day's volunteers and patient needs.

What we can do

Can you help with high blood pressure, diabetes, or other ongoing issues?

Often, yes. We did not begin as a full-time primary care practice, but these needs are common in our community. We can assess concerns, discuss medicines and basic testing, and arrange follow-up when capacity allows. For complex conditions or reliable long-term monitoring, we recommend finding a higher level of care or primary care provider. We can help you identify care beyond our Sunday clinic if needed.

Can The Weekend Clinic be my primary care provider?

We can be a place to start and sometimes provide follow-up. Because we are open one day a week and staffed by volunteers, we cannot promise the continuity or range of services of a full-time primary care office. We will work with you on a realistic plan and help connect you to ongoing care when needed. We are always willing to do as much as we safely can for you.

Can you give me medication or refill a prescription?

Sometimes. A clinician needs to evaluate what is safe and appropriate. We have a limited supply of medicines on-hand to dispense for your immediate need. We cannot guarantee a specific medication, refill, or amount in stock. A prescription filled outside the clinic may have a cost. We also are unable to dispense or prescribe any controlled substances.

Do you offer labs, EKGs, ultrasounds, or procedures?

We have some testing and procedure capabilities, including selected rapid tests, basic labs, EKGs, skin procedures, and limited point-of-care ultrasound. Availability depends on the concern, the clinician, equipment, and supplies that day. We cannot replace a full imaging center, hospital, or specialist office.

Do you see children?

We can evaluate some concerns in children, including selected minor illnesses and sports physicals. Whether we can help depends on the child's age, symptoms, and the team available. For a seriously ill child or any emergency, seek emergency care right away.

When you need more

What happens if you cannot treat my problem there?

We will explain what we found, why another setting is needed, and what next step makes sense—such as primary care, an outside test, a specialist, urgent care, or the emergency department. We do not want to leave you guessing, even when the answer is that our clinic is not enough for the problem.

Can you arrange a specialist visit or guarantee outside care is free?

We can discuss referrals and ways to navigate care, but we cannot guarantee a specialist appointment or the cost of services provided by another organization. Tell us if price or transportation is a barrier so we can look at practical options together.

What if my symptoms are serious or getting worse?

Do not wait for Sunday clinic hours. If you may be having a medical emergency, call 911 or go to an emergency department. If you are unsure about a worsening condition, seek timely medical advice in a setting that is open now.

Will I see a physician?

Care is provided by the clinicians and volunteers serving that Sunday, including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians. We cannot promise a particular provider. We will be clear when a concern needs a specialist, or a higher level of care.

These answers describe the clinic's general approach. A clinician decides what is appropriate for an individual patient and what can be offered that day.
